APPROACH

BEHAVIOUR MODIFICATION

As most of the students referred to Kamaruka have experienced behavioural challenges, a major component of teacher energy is channeled into helping students change or modify their behaviour. Using a cognitive-behavioural approach, teachers help students explore what contributes to their unacceptable behaviour, reward and reinforce desired behaviours, and offer students alternative management strategies to deal with problems in a more constructive manner.

In order to change behaviour across both home and school, and to establish a connection between these two important domains in a student’s life, a ‘Home Behaviour Report’ form is issued on a weekly basis for parents to identify home situations causing difficulties, so teachers can counsel students and offer strategies for change.

The Principal is available for guidance and advice to both students and parents/carers.
